Maria Corso is a legitimate champion of physical badassery…
(Pardon the French. Is ‘badassery’ actually French?
Well, it is but, it also translates perfectly into English).
Ms. Corso coaches STRENGTH & CONDITIONING and does a whole lot more.
She describes herself as:
a Highly motivated individual with
great communication, observational,
and problem solving skills.”
This means that YOU are her problem.
She teaches nutrition & all levels of physical fitness.
The gym is her 2nd home and its’s also her 3rd space.
This means that she eats, drinks, and sleeps in fitness routines, strength and conditioning.

And, YOU too would have had to be that person, if you were to find yourself in the business for 25+ years. Wouldn’t you?
Yes, you would.
So what does a fitness trainer actually do?
In short, we have a few great answers. Let’s focus on the main one and boil this all down to a single word. However, we have some light unpacking to do first.
She’ll ask you questions like: “When was the last time you did 20 minutes of exercise every day? What did you have for breakfast? How about for lunch? And dinner?”
Then, she needs to find out your motivations and the goals you are setting. You provide the discipline and goal, and she’ll do the motivation. The end result for both of you is that CHANGE is the end result. This shows up in any number of ways.
- Lose weight
- Get stronger
- Less back, leg, shoulder and arm pain
- More confidence
- Feeling great.
- Better health and fitness.
- Enjoy a longer life.
You’re thinking:
What the hell is this, 20 questions?”
Yes. If you read this article first, then it’ll only be 10 questions (not 20). : ))
And she’s like:

Hmmm. I wonder how motivated this potential client is? How can push them to the edge without taking them over the cliff? How likely or unlikely is this person to stay the course, follow the diet, and believe in what we’re doing?”
She’s maybe also thinking:
Hmmm. They say they want to lose 20lbs.,
but, are they willing to put in all the
work it takes to get us there?”
We don’t actually know what she’d say. We’re putting words in her mouth.
She didn’t say any of this. Maybe she thought it but she didn’t say it. We’re saying it for her. : ))

SUMMARY so far
You set the goal(s). She delivers the motivation and reasons. She teaches you discipline. You listen, learn, and focus on the end goal until you get there.
If you speak to her at all it’s because you want a change. And calling is the first step.
Change is hard. We know this. Change means being disciplined and discipline is hard too. It means going places you don’t want to go and doing things you don’t want to do.
So where does the COACH come in?
Let us oblige you.
COACH means discipline.
COACH means motivation.
COACH means change.
She personally and professionally has all three but she needs your help to reach your goal.
At the end of the day, it’s all about discipline. She’ll be the motivator. Change is the end result of discipline + motivation. Just ask her, she’ll tell you.
Is it hard?
Yes.
Will it hurt?
Yes, there’s going to be some that too.
WORKNG with the COACH
Let’s look at PAIN in a whole new light. There are a few main ingredients that go into PAIN.
- Resistance
- Emotions
- Energy
- Resistance comes from an old Latin word: resistere, meaning “to hold back” and “to stand firm against.”
- Emotion comes from the Latin emovere, meaning “to move out” or “to move away,” from e- (“out”) and movere (“to move”).
- The word “energy” comes from the Ancient Greek word energeia (ἐνέργεια), meaning “activity” or “operation”. It is composed of two parts: en- (“in”) and ergon (“work”).

Okay. So we are either disciplined or we’re not. Maybe and perhaps it will be different this time. She helps make that happen. Her job is to herself and you accountable. And she provides motivation.
She’ll help to show you what discipline means and motivate you to make a change. Change of behavior, change of perception, change of outlook and she’ll listen and hold you accountable.
Having a personal trainer that is good is someone who listens and pays attention to you, your needs, your goals, your desire(s) and what it is that you want to achieve.
So discipline is the very first thing. She provides the motivations (so check off that box).
